EXPERIENCE THE BRECON BEACONS NATIONAL PARK FROM THE CANALThe Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal stretches 35 miles between the Brecon Basin and Pontymoile Basin. It follows the natural contours of the hillside providing some fabulous views of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Even though the water can look muddied and brown it is actually fed by the crystal clear waters of the nearby River Usk.
Originally built as two separate canals: 1. Monmouthshire Canal (Pontnewynydd > Newport) 2. Brecknock and Abergavenny Canal They were left abandoned in 1962 but 'rescued' in 1970 by the River and Canal Trust and restored to form a singular canal as it is seen today. STATS6 Locks
